LUSTRA+ scholarship 2016-2017

The LUSTRA+ scholarship has been created by Leiden University for students registered at Leiden University who want to study, do research or do an internship at an institution or in a company outside Europe, which has been approved by your International Exchange Coordinator (Please note that this is not the SEA Coordinator).
You must be enrolled at Leiden University during the academic year for which the scholarship is to be awarded. During your stay abroad you will pay the statutory tuition fee to Leiden University.
You must have permission from the Board of Examiners (Examencommissie) for your period abroad.
The study, research or internship is a fully recognised part of the diploma and you will receive study credits accordingly.
If you are eligible for funding from the Sustainable Humanities Scholarship (Stagefonds Duurzame Geesteswetenschappen) for your period abroad you cannot apply for the LUSTRA+ Scholarship. Please check this with your International Exchange Coordinator.
If you are going to a country outside Europe that is on the Erasmus+ country list you cannot apply for a LUSTRA+ scholarship.
The study, research or internship should be for a minimum of 14 days and a maximum of 12 months.
Holidays at the beginning or the end of the study, research or internship period abroad cannot be included in the LUSTRA+ scholarship.
You are allowed to apply for LUSTRA+ more than once with a maximum of 12 months in total during your bachelor and 12 months in total during your master programme.
A project proposal of one A4 page maximum (in English or Dutch) signed by or on behalf of the Board of Examiners of the your institute should be included when you request a signature for the LUSTRA+ application form from your International Exchange Coordinator (please note that this is not the SEA Coordinator).
After your LUSTRA+ period has ended you must write a report and send it to your International Exchange Coordinator. A template for the Report can be downloaded from the LUSTRA+ website (see application procedure below).
Within two months after your LUSTRA+ period has ended, you must submit a ‘Lustra+ Scholarship Statement’ . This statement must be signed by your International Exchange Coordinator. Please note that the International Exchange Coordinator will only sign the Statement if he/she has received your Report. The Lustra+ Scholarship Statement must be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. The LUSTRA+ Scholarship Statement can be downloaded from the LUSTRA+ website (see application procedure below).
If you do not submit the Statement within the timelines given in the decision letter, no claim can be made on the grant and you will be obliged to pay back the total LUSTRA+ Scholarship to Leiden University.
You have read the Rules and Regulations and agree to comply with them.
The LUSTRA+ scholarship is a contribution to travel and accommodation costs. The amount of the scholarship is based on the number of weeks/months of study/internship/research period abroad. The amount stated is a lump sum and not an amount per month.
14 days up to and including 30 days
|31 days up to and including 3 months
|4 months up to and including 7 months
|8 months up to and including 12 months
A calculation will be made on the basis of one month is the equivalent of 30 days.
- You are going away for 6 months and 4 days: you get € 450
- You are going away for 6 months and 25 days: you get € 450
- You are going away for 8 months or more: you get € 650
After your period abroad you write a Report. The Report must be sent to your International Exchange Coordinator. The template for the Report can be downloaded here and the link will also be included in the LUSTRA+ decision letter.
Besides the report you must fill out the LUSTRA+ Scholarship Statement and have it signed by the International Exchange Coordinator. Please note that the International Exchange Coordinator will not sign the Statement if he/she has not received the Report.
Within two months after your LUSTRA+ period has ended you must sent your LUSTRA+ Statement to email@example.com.
Please note that if you do not submit the Statement within the timelines given in the decision letter, no claim can be made on the grant and the student will be obliged to pay back the total LUSTRA+ scholarship to Leiden University.
If you plan to travel after the termination of your LUSTRA+ period abroad, make sure you will be able to send your Statement and Report in time.
The Scholarships Department of Leiden University is responsible for the administration of the LUSTRA+ Scholarship, but it is at all times the responsibility of the student to ensure that the application form is complete. Applications that are not signed by the International Exchange Coordinator will not be processed.
