Internal appeal to the Executive Board
If you have an objection against a decision made by a University body, and there is no possibility of an appeal to the Examination Appeals Board, you can lodge an internal appeal with the Executive Board. If an internal appeal is possible, this will be mentioned on the relevant decision. You have to submit the letter of appeal within 6 weeks after the receipt of the decision. For students, this arrangement relates primarily to decisions taken by the Executive Board regarding enrolment and deregistration, restitution of tuition fees and the awarding of allowances from the ‘Regulation on Financial Support to Students 2000.’
Complaints and appeals (except those to the Examinations Appeals Board) are handled by the Committee for Complaints and Appeals. During the processing of a complaint or appeal, you will be given the opportunity to explain your position both in writing and (if required) in person. A report will be made of the hearing. The address of the secretariat for this committee is:
Leiden University Legal Affairs
PO Box 9500
2300 RA Leiden
If you have any questions, you can contact the secretariat of the committee: (071- 527 8118) or consult the regulation of the Committee.
Before you can lodge an appeal with the Appeals Tribunal for Higher Education in The Hague, you first have to follow the internal appeals procedure. The Higher Education Appeals Board will not make a judgment while it is possible for the complainant to make an appeal to the Examination Appeals Committee
