Combining your studies with top-level sport
Would you like to combine your studies with top-level sport? This requires a great deal of effort and meticulous study planning. If you are an athlete competing at the highest level in your sport, Leiden University can offer you personal guidance to further develop your talents.
Are you a national or international top athlete and do you have A, B, High Potential or NTC status from the national sports organisation NOC*NSF? If it is at all possible, you can count on the university to be supportive, by providing additional study facilities such as:
extending the submission dates for assignments
exemption or partial exemption from mandatory attendance
alternative course assignments
exemption from meeting the requirements of the Binding Study Advice
Are you an NOC*NSF athlete in category A, B, High Potential or NTC, and are you behind with your studies because of your sporting activities? If so, you may be eligible for financial support from the Graduation Fund. Please contact the student counsellor for more information.
As a top athlete, at the start of the academic year you have to combine two different schedules namely:
your study requirements
your sport-related activities
The best idea is to make a good plan in consultation with your study adviser.
You may come across problems during your studies that you cannot resolve yourself. In that case, you can ask the student counsellor for assistance. He or she is familiar with all the possibilities that are available and can offer personal guidance to top athletes such as yourself.
You can make an appointment with the student counsellor, Mr M.F.M. (Marcel) Melchers. He will make the time to help you with what you need to combine your talents.
